Because the doc wasn't confident the results in the last sleep study were correct they sent us on our way to do another at the Childrens hospital. The last one was showing that he had obstructive apnea which meant he had something blocking his airway. I was praying so hard that it wasn't the case. Poor kid has gone through so much to get his airway nice and open and I didn't want him to have to go through any more. We did a lot of talking before about the sleep study to help him try and understand what was going to happen in hopes that he would tolerate it better.
I think all the talking really helped, because he was a dream. Not to mention the sleep tech was amazing! I knew this time no matter what they found it would be a good read, because he actually got some decent sleep that night.
The sleep study showed that he had no obstructive apnea thank goodness. It did show that he had some central apnea which means his brain doesn't send the message to breathe. It is nothing new he has always had it and it falls in the normal range so we don't worry too much about it. The doc is now going to move forward with the vocal chord repair surgery. Although instead of doing a permanent fix he is going to do a temporary one because it was obstruct his airway a tiny bit so they want to make sure he can tolerate it. The doc said he will need to get some voice therapy to teach him how to use his voice properly after the repair. Right now he uses his false chords to talk so the therapy will help train him to use his vocal chords. I can't wait to hear his voice. I can't even imagine what he will sound like, but I assume it will be VERY raspy. I've always been a lover of a raspy voices so I can't wait!
